Chocolate Hearts

These Chocolate Heart Cookies are the perfect Valentine’s Day treat. The cookie alone has great chocolate flavor. Once they are dipped in the bittersweet chocolate the flavor just intensifies giving this cookie a deep richness that is the perfect treat for the chocolate lover in your life.

If you love the deep rich flavor of chocolate on chocolate, then this is the cookie for you. The double dark cocoa powder gives these cookies that richness that you are looking for with anything chocolate. Double Dark Cocoa Powder is a mixture of Dutch Processed Cocoa Powder and Black Cocoa powder. It has superior flavor and gives these cookies their intense dark color. But I didn’t stop there. I wanted a more rich chocolate flavor, so dipping them in a silky bittersweet chocolate was the key to getting these cookies as chocolatey as possible. As for the freeze dried strawberry dust, well why not.

Tips For Making Chocolate Heart Cookies

  • When using a unsweetened cocoa powder, always opt for one that has deep intense color and flavor. I like the King Arthur Double Dark Cocoa Powder for this reason. It adds great chocolate flavor to all your chocolate desserts.
  • When making anything chocolate, I always add a bit of Espresso powder to the recipe. It will help intensify the chocolate flavor.
  • It is best to chill this dough before using. This will help reduce any spreading when baked and it will also aid in this cookie having a chewy texture.
  • I used freeze dried strawberries for my cookies but feel free to use the decoration of your choice. Freeze dried raspberries, candied orange peel or sprinkles.
  • To store, keep cookies in an air tight container for up to 1 week or plain unzipped cookies in a ziplock bag layered between wax paper for up to 3 months. When ready to use, defrost, dip in melted chocolate and decorate with the desired topping.
