Nutella Bread

Nutella is the brand name for a hazelnut chocolate spread. It is a nutty, creamy chocolate spread that can be used in a variety of ways. It’s great with strawberries, spread on toast and smeared on crepes, but another great way to use Nutella is in this braided bread. This Bread is perfect for a sweet treat at breakfast or a
great addition to any brunch or dessert table.

Now I know that making a bread from scratch can be intimidating, but trust me it is much easier then you may think, and the finished product makes it so well worth it.

So if you are looking for a rich chocolatey treat, this Nutella Bread will be perfect.

Start by placing the yeast in warm water for 10 minutes to activate.

To the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook add the flour, sugar and salt and whisk until combined. Add yeast mixture and mix for 8 minutes.

Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel and place in a warm location for 1 hour or until dough has doubled in size.

Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface. Spread Nutella out evenly over dough making sure to leave a 1/2” border.

Starting on the longer side, tightly roll up dough until a log is formed. Pinch both sides to seal.

Place dough log on a parchment lined baking sheet. Starting an inch from the top, slice dough down the center of the log with a very sharp knife. Braid both ends together making sure the cut side always faces up. Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm location for 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350º. Scramble an egg and about 2 tablespoons of water together to form an egg wash. Brush the top of the dough with the egg wash then place in the preheated oven and bake bread for 25 minutes. Raise temperature to 400º and continue baking until golden brown about 5 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
