What You Will Need To Make These Bagels
- Yeast: I like to use an Active Dry Yeast for this recipe. This will allow for a more controlled, slower rise, which will help develop the flavors in the bagel.
- Sugar: Adding a small amount of Granulated Sugar will help feed the yeast giving your bagels a better rise.
- Flour: This recipe calls for Bread Flour which creates a chewy, dense texture.
- Salt: Overall flavor enhancer.
- Honey: This adds to the flavor and texture of the bagel and also helps establish that golden brown color.
- Egg: Scrambled with a small amount of water, creates an egg wash that is perfect for brushing on the bagels before baking. This will help create that golden brown color.
- Seasoning: Since these are Everything Bagels, we are going to use Everything Bagel Seasoning, which is a combination of black and white sesame seed, poppy seeds, minced dried onion and garlic.

Ingredients
1 1/3 Cup room temperature water
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
3 1/2 Cups Bread Flour
1 Teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons honey
1 Egg scrambled with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash
Everything Bagel Seasoning
Directions
- Place the 1 1/3 cup of water in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment. Add the yeast and sugar and stir to combine. Add the flour and salt and mix on medium low speed for 10 minutes. Remove from mixer bowl, shape into a ball and place in a medium sized oiled bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and place in a warm location for 1 hour or until double in size. To help speed up this process, place the bowl in your oven with the oven off but the light on. The heat from the light will allow it to rise quicker.
- Once double in size, punch the dough down. Divide dough into eight equal portions and roll each portion into a smooth ball, place on a parchment lined baking sheet and once again cover with a clean kitchen towel. Set to the side to rest for 10 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425º. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and sprinkle the bottom of the baking sheet with everything bagel seasoning then set to the side. Fill a large pot with water add the honey and bring to a boil.
- To shape dough, using your fingers, poke a hole in the center of each dough ball and gently stretch to form a smooth ring. Place half of the bagels in the pot and boil for two minutes on each side. Repeat with the remaining bagels.
- Place bagels on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the bagels with the egg wash and generously sprinkle the tops with the everything bagel seasoning. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
- Enjoy!
