With an almond flour shortbread cookie that is the base for a creamy peanut butter carmel center then dipped in bittersweet chocolate to give it a little extra richness. They might soon become your new obsession.

If you know me, you would know that I have a bit of a sweet tooth. Whether it be a cake, cookie or a piece of candy, I am right there to get my share. But I am also aware of the fact that having too many sweets can have a negative impact on your health. This is why I try to find a way to make desserts from scratch with as little ingredients as possible or even try to substitute bad ingredients with ingredients that have nutritional value.
I must say as I was growing up, I did enjoy the occasional candy bar. But as I got older and my taste became more mature I noticed that the candy bars of my youth were not as good as I thought they once were. With so many ingredients in them ( some of which I had trouble pronouncing ) I notice that they had a more processed taste. So when I was craving a candy bar one day, I thought to myself, “ I am sure I can duplicate this with fresh ingredients that taste great and are good for me “. So with much trial and error I finally came up with a candy that was perfect. My family loved it and I felt good about them eating it. The best part, it was super easy to make. So why not give it a try. It might become your new family favorite.

Tips For Making These Copycat Healthy Twix Treats
- Use The Right Vessel: For these I used a silicone heart shaped muffin tray. I will say that silicone is definitely the way to go, this way they can be removed from the tray easily. You can also use a loaf pan that is covered with parchment paper for easy removal. If you choose to do it this way, then just slice them into rectangles then dip them in chocolate.
- Chill Time: Don’t skip it. It is absolutely necessary to chill these treats when asked to do so.
- Storing: These Twix Treats must be stored in the refrigerator or even the freezer. Just place in an airtight container for up to 1 week in the refrigerator or up to 3 months in the freezer ( if they last that long ).

What You Need To Make Copycat Healthy Twix Treats
Equipment:
- Mixing Bowls: Having mixing bowls in a variety of sizes is helpful when preparing your recipes. I like to use glass because they are non reactive, meaning, they will not have any chemical reaction with the food that you place in them.
- Silicone Spatula: Having a good sturdy silicone spatula will help in the mixing process. They are also great for scraping out every last bit from your bowls so that nothing is wasted.
- Heart Shaped Silicone Pan: I love using a heart shaped pan for these but feel free to use whatever pan you have. If making individual treats, you must make sure your pan is made of silicone or line your cupcake trays with paper liners first. If you would rather use a loaf pan then just make sure to cover the pan with a piece of parchment paper so that it can be removed from the pan easily.
Ingredients:
- Nut Flour: For these I made an Almond Flour cookie base. I like using almond flour because it’s nutrient rich, gluten free and has heart health benefits.
- Sweetener: The perfect way to sweeten these treats is with a natural sweetener like Pure Maple Syrup. It will add a unique flavor to your recipes and best of all has a slightly lower glycemic index than regular sugar.
- Oil: I like to use Avocado Oil for its neutral flavor and its heart health.
- Vanilla Extract: I always opt for Pure Vanilla Extract due to its intense vanilla flavor.
- Salt: Just a pinch of salt will enhance the flavors and balances the sweetness in desserts.
- Peanut Butter: A Natural Creamy Peanut Butter is the way to go. I like to use one that has just two ingredients, peanuts and salt.
- Chocolate Chips: I like to use Bittersweet Chocolate Chips But feel free to use Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips If you prefer.
- Coconut Oil: A small amount of Coconut Oil will allow your melted chocolate to be smooth.
