Chocolate Snowball Cookies

These Chocolate Snowball Cookies are perfect for the Holidays. A rich chocolate cookie that is loaded with mini chocolate chips and lightly flavored with orange zest then rolled into balls and baked until just firm. Once cooled they are smothered in powdered sugar for a bit of extra sweetness.

Chocolate Snowball Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 Cup powder sugar
  • 1/4 Cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 Teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 Teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 Cups all purpose flour
  • 1 Cup mini morrsels
  • 1 Cup powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment beat butter on high for 30 seconds. Add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, orange zest and salt and beat until combined. Beat in the all purpose flour until just combined. Add the mini morsels and mix until just combined. Knead dough into a ball and cover with plastic wrap and chill for one hour or until easy to handle.
  2. Preheat oven to 325º. Line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper and set to the side. Remove dough from the refrigerator. Using a small ice cream scoop, form dough into 1” balls and roll between the palms of your hands until smooth. Place dough balls onto prepared baking sheet 1” apart. Place in preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes or until cookies are just firm and no longer glossy. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack.
  3. Add powdered sugar to a large zip lock bag. Add cooled cookies in batched to zip lock bag and gently shake to coat. Remove from bag and serve.
  4. To store place in an air tight container for up to five days or place in a zip lock bag in freezer for up to three months.
