Chocolate Orange Truffle Cups

These Chocolate Orange Truffle Cups are the perfect dessert for a small dinner party. They are the perfect combination of chocolate with a hint of orange. There buttery flaky crust is pressed into the wells of a mini muffin tray to form little cups, then baked until golden brown. Then they are filled with a rich chocolate ganache that is kissed with the flavor of orange. Then topped with shaved chocolate and decorated with the zest of an orange. Your guests will be truly satisfied.

Chocolate Orange Truffle Cups

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon finely shredded orange zest
  • 1/2 Cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 2 Egg yolks
  • 1 Tablespoon orange juice
  • 1/2 Cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 Tablespoon orange flavored liqueur or orange juice
  • 5 oz. Bittersweet chocolate chopped
  • 1 Teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Shaved chocolate for topping
  • Orange peel for decorating ( optional )

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°. In the bowl of a food processor combine the all purpose flour, Granulated sugar and finally shredded orange zest. Cover and process until just combined. Add butter and pulse until pieces are the size of peas. Add egg yolks and the 1 tablespoon of orange juice, pulse until just combined. Spray the wells of a mini muffin tray with cooking spray and set to the side. Divide the dough into 24 pieces. Shape dough into balls. Place each ball into one of the 24 mini muffin cups. Press dough evenly onto the bottom and up the sides of the muffin cups.
  2. Place muffin trays in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
  3. Meanwhile, for the filling, in a microwave safe bowl combine the heavy whipping cream and the orange liqueur or orange juice. Add the chopped chocolate. Microwave on high for 1 to 2 minutes in 30 second intervals, mixing after each. Stir in the vanilla extract. Cover and chill for 30 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally.
  4. Spoon filling into the cooled cups. Place the filled cups in the refrigerator for 2 hours or over night. Top with shaved chocolate and orange peel then serve.
