What You Will Need To Make This Apple Tart

:Equipment: :

  • Food Processor: A food processor is an important kitchen appliance. It not only saves time when chopping, slicing or shredding. It is also great for preparing pastry
  • Rolling Pin: The perfect tool for rolling out your pastry. I prefer to use a French Rolling Pin because I feel it allows you to be more precise when rolling out your pastry.
  • Baking Sheet: Perfect for baking your tart. I prefer ones made of aluminum due to there ability to conduct heat evenly, ensuring consistent baking and even browning.
  • Parchment Paper: Used to line your baking tray to prevent sticking and allow for an easier clean up.

Ingredients:

  • Flour: A good All Purpose Flour works best.
  • Salt: A small amount of salt will bring out the flavors in the recipe.
  • Butter: Unsalted is best so that you can control the salt content in the recipe.
  • Apples: Granny Smith is the perfect apple for this tart. Just peel, core and cut in half, then slice into 1/8” thick slices and coat in lemon juice to prevent from browning.
  • Sugar: Adding a sprinkling of Granulated Sugar is the perfect way to add a bit of sweetness to this recipe.
  • Ground Cinnamon: For added warmth.
  • Apple Jelly: This will add a glossy shine to your apples and will also add sweetness.

Tips For Making This Apple Tart

  • When making the crust it is important to make sure your ingredients are very cold. This includes very cold butter cut into cubes and the use of ice water. By doing this you ensure that you will have a flaky crust.
  • I like to use a tart apple like a Granny Smith for this tart. Coating them with lemon juice will help prevent them from browning.
  • This tart is coated with apple jelly after it is baked. If you can’t find apple jelly, apricot jelly can be substituted, instead.

A super easy dessert that is easy to make and taste great. Whether for an elegant dinner party or just as a family treat. This simple Apple Tart is sure to become your new family favorite.

Ingredients

  • For The Crust
  • 1 1/2 Cups all purpose flour

  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt

  • 9 Tablespoons very cold butter, cut into cubes

  • 3 – 4 Tablespoons ice water

  • For The Apples
  • 4 Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored and sliced

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/3 Cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 Teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 2 Tablespoons heavy cream

  • 1/2 Cup apple jelly, melted

Directions

  • Place the flour and salt in the bowl of a food processor and pulse several times to combine. Add the very cold butter cubes and continue pulsing until a fine meal forms. Add the ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, pulsing after each addition, until pastry starts to come together. Remove from the food processor, form into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap and chill for one hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 400º. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set to the side. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into a 10” x 13” rectangle and place on the prepared baking sheet. If there are left over scrapes, use them to decorate your tart. Set to the side.
  • Cut peeled and cored apples in half and place cut side down on a cutting board, slice into 1/8” slices and drizzle with lemon juice to coat to prevent browning.
  • Arrange the apple slices in rows with each slice overlapping the previous slice. Continue this until the entire pastry is covered. Brush the top with the melted butter. Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and sprinkle the tops of the apples with the sugar mixture. Decorate with the remaining pastry if using and brush the exposed pastry with the heavy cream. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until apples have softened and pastry has turned golden. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  • While your tart is cooling, place the apple jelly in a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals until completely melted. Brush the top of the tart with the melted jelly. Slice and serve with vanilla ice cream.
  • Enjoy!
