Apple Crumb Cake

If your a fan of apples and crumb cake, then you are really going to enjoy this Apple Crumb Cake. With its warm cinnamon apples and sweet crunchy crumb topping it makes the perfect fall dessert.

Once September rolls around and I start to feel a slight chill in the air, my cravings for Fall desserts start to emerge. You know the ones, apple pies, apple cakes and apple cookies. I have to say that this Apple Crumb Cake is high on my list for great Fall desserts. It has a moist tender cake, warm cinnamon coated apples and a delicious crumb topping. It’s the perfect dessert to serve on a cool Fall day.

How To Make Apple Crumb Cake

Preheat oven to 375º. Line a spring form pan with parchment and spray with baking spray then set to the side.

Start by making the crumble topping. To a medium sized mixing bowl add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, salt, all purpose flour and melted butter. Using a fork, combine all the ingredients together until pea sized crumbs form, then set to the side.

In a large mixing bowl whisk together the all purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.

To a separate medium sized mixing bowl whisk together the eggs avocado oil, milk and pure vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and fold to combine.

Pour cake batter into the prepared pan.

Place peeled and chopped apples in a small mixing bowl. Add ground cinnamon and toss to coat. Spread the cinnamon coated apples on top of the batter.

Sprinkle the prepared crumb topping on top of the apples, completely covering.

Place cake in preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until topping is golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before removing from spring form pan.

Once cooled remove from pan and serve.

Ingredients:

For The Cake:

  • 3/4 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 Teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 Cup + 2 teaspoons avocado oil
  • 1/4 Cup + 2 teaspoons milk
  • 1 Teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 lMedium apples, peeled, cored and chopped ( I used honey crisp )
  • 1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon for the apples

For The Crumb Topping

  • 1/3 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 Cup brown sugar
  • 2 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 Teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 Cup ( 1 stick ) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375º. Line a spring form pan with parchment paper and spray with baking spray and set to the side.
  2. For the crumb topping, to a medium sized mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, flour, salt and melted butter. Mix with a fork until pea sized crumbs form. Set to the side.
  3. In a large mixing bowl whisk together the all purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt.
  4. In a separate medium sized mixing bowl whisk together the oil, milk, egg and pure vanilla extract.
  5. Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and fold in to combine.
  6. Pour cake batter into prepared spring form pan and spread to cover bottom.
  7. Place chopped apples in a small bowl along with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and toss to coat.
  8. Scatter apples on top of batter. Sprinkle prepared topping on top of apples, completely covering.
  9. Place in preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before removing from pan. Once cooled remove from pan, place on a serving platter and serve.
